Success Story: From cancellation to series production - Leidorf and UD laminates for wind turbines
It started with a simple enquiry: „Can you mill UD laminates for wind turbines?“ The sales department initially reacted cautiously - as a timber construction company, processing UD laminates seemed to be outside our area of expertise. The enquiry was rejected.
But six months later, Mr Leidorf received the same question - without knowing that it had already been answered negatively. His spontaneous reaction: „Why not?“
This open approach changed everything. With the XL-CNC joinery system, we started our first tests for processing the UD laminates.
The tests were very promising and the first components were soon able to be manufactured precisely and efficiently. The process was optimised step by step - from fixing the laminate stacks to the final processing strategy. Today, we are able to precisely process up to 30 UD laminates on top of each other.
The result? Today we are allowed to produce UD laminates for 750 wind blades or 250 wind turbines finished. The initial misconception that „we can't do it“ was disproved by innovation and the courage to take on new challenges.
This story shows that successful companies do not define their limits by past experience, but by the courage to explore new possibilities. At Leidorf, we don't say „It can't be done“ - we ask „How can we make it possible?“
