An ingenious wooden construction combines sustainability and functionality

Leidorf and Holzbau Müller Schick Bausysteme are working together to erect the roof structure of the recycling centre at Augsburger Talweg 89.

Right next to the logistics site of the Hasen brewery, the city of Augsburg built a waste collection centre with a striking roof construction. Asymmetrical concrete columns support a sophisticated timber construction. The wooden box elements were assembled on site, filled with gravel and moved onto the concrete supports.

The implementation of the project was a logistical masterpiece by Holzbau Müller Schick Bausysteme.

In addition to the static requirements, the construction should also solve the acoustics in the recycling centre. When the recyclables are thrown into the containers, noise is generated, which should be reduced by the acoustic soffit of the roof. At the same time, the soffit should also ensure the statics of the box element.

The statics and acoustics could be combined with a 13.5 m long LVL panel with acoustic holes from the Leidorf company

It is nothing special to drill acoustic holes in a wood-based panel. For structural reasons, however, it was necessary for the panels to be 13.5 x 2.5 m, a size that could not be machined on standard CNC machines. At Leidorf, machining in this size was possible. LVL was chosen as the material for the soffit.

As a premium stockist of large-format Kerto / LVL panels, Leidorf was able to offer the material and even the acoustic processing for this building project.

Thus, the project could be successfully implemented as planned with large-format LVL boards with an acoustic soffit. In our opinion, the result speaks for itself!
